Thailand resumes modified Test & Go Scheme from February 1st, 2022

Thailand is Ready to Reopen Its Doors to Welcome International Travelers by Resuming the Thai Quarantine Waiver

January 26, 2022 – Bangkok Thailand

The government recorded success in controlling the omicron variant with requisite actions in the last month after facing the next wave of COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand during the new year holiday period. Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced following a meeting chaired by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha that the government has approved the following: The resumption of the exemption from quarantine (Test & Go) entry scheme, the expansion of sandbox destinations from the current 4 to 6, and the reintroduction of the Sandbox Extension program, effective from February 1, 2022, from 09.00 AM., Bangkok time. The fully vaccinated travelers from any country around the world can apply for a Test & Go Thailand Pass 60 days in advance via https://tp.consular.go.th/.[1]

There have been slight revisions to the rules, requiring travelers to have proof of their hotel booking on the first and fifth day of their stay in Thailand when they undergo RT-PCR tests. In the original Test & Go program, travelers only had one RT-PCR test on arrival.[2]

TEST AND GO in Action

Under the updated scheme, tourists are required to show proof of hotel booking for Day 1 and Day 5 of their stay in the country when applying for entry via the Thailand Pass website. The hotels can be different ones. The hotels they book must possess Safety and Health Administration (SHA+), plus certification or be allowed to serve as COVID-19 alternative quarantine facilities.

Tourists must undergo an RT-PCR test on the first day of arrival and again on the fifth day. If they test negative, they are free to travel to their destinations, the CCSA said. The tourists must make pre-payment for two RT-PCR tests. The scheme also retains the requirement for tourists to prove the health insurance with minimum US$50,000. Additionally, they must have a negative RT-PCR test result within 72 hours before departure. Tourists are also required to provide certificates of full vaccinations or medical certificates that they have contracted and recovered from COVID-19 when they apply for entry via Thailand Pass.[3]

Trade Exhibition Returns on the Show Floor After Q2

“This is a significant sign for the exhibition industry that we are waiting for. To bring back the Test & Go entry scheme is a better way to restart the country’s economically vital tourism industry after 18 months of the border closure. The short opening of the Test & Go in November 2021 has already proved to have a positive effect on the tourism towards Thailand. So now it is time to end the waiting and restart business through the powerful platforms of Trade Fairs, the ideal gateway to various industries for this region,” stated Mr. Igor Palka, Managing Director of VNU Asia Pacific. “We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to the Trade Fair floor, with interactive networking, business matching, and expanding your business with global investors.”
